"So, what's the solution?"

Hi Gang,
here's the first posting in our new Potluck Team blog!

I love Pepita's question, and again, my answer is, "More potlucks!"

But let's share thoughts here this week, and see what comes of it.

Have a great week!

Don

I think that we should start sharing our expertise and ideas on community building.

Carol and I have had the goal of creating a "retreat center" since we met in 1989. Our original vision was to create a place where people could escape from the demands of everyday life and spend time reconnecting with nature and their innermost desires. We always envisioned attracting people from very diverse backgrounds and cultures who could add richness to our lives simply by being who they are. We imagined people gathering together in the evening and sharing thoughts and experiences. We also planned to focus on energy efficient building techniques and sustainable and safe life styles. We hoped in time to find like minded people to join us in our efforts.

We have not yet discovered how to make enough money to bring our vision to reality but we are still educating ourselves about the details.

We have some knowledge of numerous inexpensive and earth-friendly building techniques. We built an energy-efficient and non-toxic home, did extensive landscaping, learned much about drip irrigation, and Carol gained significant experience in organic gardening while I honed my skills as a woodworker.

Most of the light bulbs in our house were of the energy efficient type thus greatly reducing our energy bills due to lighting. We purchased the bulbs in quantity at Costco for a very reasonable price. Our house had concrete floors that were scored and stained to resemble large tiles. We also learned quite a bit about radiant floor heating.

There is quite a bit more that I could add but since this is my first experience with blogging, I will end for now until I see how this works.

Hello all,
What a lovely idea for a potluck as well as a retreat. I believe it's all in the way we view things. Let us not retreat. Let us not get away. The most therapeutic solutions are when we face these issues head on. I'm scared but ready. Adding more people to this potluck will make it obviously more lively, but let us challenge ourselves to choose someone that might embarass us. I maight have been that "she"/"her" . Thanks again Pepita, for this lovely insighful question!
